Pricing & Procedure for Portrait Commissions

"I like to think that a good portrait is a collaboration between painter and sitter, as such I strive to make the whole process as enjoyable and relaxing as possible.

Capture a Moment. Tell a Story

Bring your loved ones, memories, or personal vision to life with a custom oil portrait by Michael Worthington

Whether you’re seeking a timeless family heirloom, a meaningful gift, or a striking personal statement, a commissioned portrait is a unique work of art that endures for generations.

About the Artist

With years of experience in oil painting, I specialize in creating portraits that blend realism with atmosphere and mood. Each piece is painted on stretched canvas starting at 20 x 20 inches and using the highest quality oil paints. A piece this size usually takes around 20 hours to complete. My approach emphasizes careful observation, expressive brushwork, and a deep respect for the individuality of every subject.

“We absolutley love it. We are going to call it ‘Yowrda Man’, that’s Bevans bush name.”

Kimberley Slaterley.

The Commission Process

1. Consultation

“I always like to begin the process with an informal, introductory meeting where the sitter and I can discuss any ideas/thoughts they may have for the project. It’s a good opportunity to spend a little time with the sitter; a couple of hours in someone’s company can be invaluable in getting an insight of character. I’ll guide you through options for size, background, and mood.

2. Proposal& Deposit

You will recieve a detailed proposal outlining the timeline, pricing, and terms. A deposit of 50% is required to secure your spot.

3. Creation

I will then return and take a number of photos to get to know the sitter more, and play around with the lighting and composition. I try to communicate the personality, life and character of the sitter to the viewer while always maintaining an accurate likeness. I'm happy for the sitter to collaborate as much as they like and encourage their thoughts and input.

I’ll begin your portrait using a wet-in-wet (alla prima) technique, allowing for rich blending and a sense of immediacy. You’ll receive progress updates and a preview before final touches.

4. Delivery

Once complete, your portrait will be carefully packaged and either hand delivered or shipped, ready to display and cherish.

NOTE, depending on workloads and complexity a portrait can take between 1-3 months however consideration will always be given should there be any specific deadlines involved.”
